A fellowship begins
In 2002, Bill Majors and Jim King began inviting pastors and missionaries from other countries who were living and serving in Korea to meet for Tuesday lunch. The aim was relationship rather than control: people serving in different churches and ministries could eat together, encourage one another, and better understand what God was doing across the city.
The lunch eventually developed into a monthly gathering that rotated among churches and ministry settings. A short time of worship and prayer accompanied the meal and fellowship.
Worship across congregations
In 2004, International Worship in English at Youngnak Church hosted the first joint Christmas worship. In 2006, a joint Good Friday worship was hosted at Onnuri Community Church. During the following decade, Youngnak’s international congregation hosted annual joint Christmas worships, while Onnuri and Sarang churches hosted joint Good Friday worships. International residents and English-language congregations across Korea were invited.
The gatherings showed one practical expression of unity among followers of Jesus: local congregations remained local congregations, while believers could worship together across denominational, national, and cultural lines.
What continues
Leadership and participation have changed over time, but the need for relationships among pastors, missionaries, churches, and international communities remains. Gospel Hub Korea now helps people find many international and English-language worship communities, while AIM relationships continue independently.
