God makes himself known
God is spirit. Though invisible, he makes his character, purposes and actions known throughout the Bible’s story. The Bible was written and preserved so that people may know who God is, understand humanity’s place before him and respond to his invitation into relationship.
The Word became flesh
The story reaches its climax in Jesus Christ. The Gospel of John identifies Jesus as the Word who became flesh and lived among us. Through his life and teaching, Jesus makes the Father known and opens the way for people to know God.
Written for us
The Bible was written for us, but it was not originally written to us. We seek to understand it within its own historical, literary and cultural context, allowing the text to guide our conclusions. Reading and discussing together helps us listen, learn and remain willing to correct our understanding.
Its influence in Korea
Its influence can be traced through translation, the wider public use of Hangul, education, medicine, ethical thought, law, human rights, public life, service and mission. These historical effects matter, but they are not the Bible’s deepest purpose. They arose in complex settings, yet many were shaped by people responding to its message about God, humanity, Jesus Christ and stewardship as followers of Jesus.
